“IDENTITY IN EUROPE: A DISCOVERY” PROJECT´S NOMINATION

The aim of European Charlemagne Youth Prize is to foster consciousness of young people on European questions and to encourage their participation in the European integration projects.

This prize awards the projects implemented by youth which teaches mutual understanding fosters, the feeling of acommon European identity, and desmontrates in a pratical way how Europeans live together as one community.

European Charlemagne Youth Prize each year is rendered by European Parliament and the Fund of Inter-national Charlemagne Prize in Aachen.

In 2014, the project “Identity in Europe: A Discovery” participated in the contest Charlemagne Youth Prize. Evaluation commission in Lithuania, which consisted of the members of European Parliament Zigmantas Balcytis, Leonidas Donskis, Justas Paleckis and the representative of Lithuanian National Union of Students Birute Noreikaitė, admitted that the project was the best. On the 17th of May, 2014, Gabija Karpauskaitė represented the project went to the award ceremony in the city of Aachen (Germany). Even though the project did not win the prize, we are happy to have represented Lithuania in this competition.

The Project “Identity in Europe: a Discovery” took place from September 1st, 2012 to September 1st, 2013 in Vilnius and in Amsterdam with the Nederland partner Studentenhuis Aenstal. The goals of the project were:

  • To actively involve the participants in their discovery of the national and European identity.
  • To give opportunity to young people to thing about what it is the human identity and how to improve it.
